The type and model of vehicle selected for use as an armored passenger car or sport utility must take into consideration such things as the suitability of the vehicle's powertrain. Certain vehicles may be underpowered when armored with the upper levels of protection such as for high-powered rifles. Many SUVs are suitable for armoring and several may be fully armored to Level IV or Level V (See Levels of Protection).

Thus, vehicle performance is superior to all other certified armor systems and the lighter weights allow many more styles and types of vehicles to carry the same level of armor protection. Money Transports - Cash Carriers - Specialty Vehicles

Commercial applications of armored vehicles will include armored money transports, cash in transit vehicles or other such specialty vehicle modifications to meet SWAT or other uses. Depending on the client's requirements and specifications, these can range from the lighter armoring in minivan models of transport vehicles such as Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari vehicles from General Motors to the larger van type bodies such as the Ford E350, GMC Savana or Chevrolet Cutaway models.

This type of vehicle offers payload ranges from 1,500 lbs to around 5,000 lbs. Greater payload requirements can be achieved by the use of such vehicles as the flat back cowl and box versions of heavy duty armored transports which will provide GVWR ranges close to 30,000 lbs and their respectively higher payload capacities.

The same quality controls, fit and finish goes into the upfit of these specialty vehicles and the same attention to detail is provided. When possible, and particularly in export sales, the base vehicle chassis is provided through the authorized original equipment manufacturer such as GM or Ford in order to provide those factory warranties in the countries of end use.
